Can We Get a Witness? Introducing God Moments

Posted Monday, October 13, 2008

At Flower Mound United Methodist, we know God is good … all the time! And all the time … God is good! Your church is pleased to offer a key discipleship privilege: the chance to witness about how God has revealed His love for you.

Through the new God Moments program, you can enjoy the blessings God promises to those who profess their faith in Him and willingly tell others how He’s changed their lives.

The Bible reveals that sharing our faith is a prerequisite to salvation. Romans 10:9 says: “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” The gift of salvation is a privilege we earn by confidently and publicly declaring Jesus as our savior. The God Moments program makes that step easy and rewarding.

“We are children of God,” says 1 John 3:1-3, “and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when He appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” Think about the ways in which you have experienced God’s love. How has He revealed Himself and how did that affect you or others close to you? If you can answer that question, you have a God Moment to share. And, if you’re willing to share it, we want to help you!

Sharing your God Moment(s) is as simple as describing your experiences to those you know and love. By collecting God Moments, then sharing them in various ways, we hope to honor God while encouraging and inspiring our faith family. You can view the following God Moments involving those in our familty of faith:

  • Iva Andrews creates a patchwork of love and prayer in the form of a Cathedral Quilt.
  • Dave Henderson praises God for His helping hands in the miracle of his grand-daugher's birth.
  • Judy Perry describes the blessings of food.
  • Natalie Palmer experiences the miraculous power of prayer in her recovery from cancer.
  • Merrion Pierce reflects on prayer, communion and family.
  • Chelsea Sparks shares her insights on the blessings of reaching out to friends.
  • Shelbey Sparks sees in a beautiful rainbow a reminder of God's love for her.
  • Wayne and Jan Steppy capture in their photography the beauty of God's creation.

A God Moment story can come from those of any age, at any stage on their faith journey. Stories may be short or long and given verbally, in writing, or both. Story formatting and distribution can vary to suit a storyteller’s preferences. Assistance, if desired, is available from our God Moments team: Senior Pastor Reid Fade, Associate Pastor Carol Sparks, and our Witness Committee (led by Ruste Foster, Judy Reid, Dean Lampman and Angie McCoy).

Our approach is intentionally flexible. So, if you, or someone you know, have a God Moment story others should hear, please contact a God Moments team member. We’ll help determine the best method(s) for capturing and sharing the message while accommodating the storyteller’s wishes.

God has richly blessed us at FMUMC. It’s now time for us to share how His blessings have accrued through our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring glad tidings!” says Romans 10:15. Are you ready to help us, and help yourself, by taking the simple but vital step of giving your testimony about the power of faith and God’s unfathomable love?
