Posted Saturday, June 28, 2008

Men of FMUMC: Are you looking for an opportunity to get to know Christ a little better, to put an extra kick in your spiritual life and walk with Him, and to hang out with a contingent of good-looking, brilliant members of the FMUMC United Methodist Men (UMM) group? We thought you might be! That's why this article is offered to encourage you to register now for Promise Keepers 2008 (PK08), scheduled for August 15-16 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

FMUMC UMM leaders are making PK08 a spiritual launching pad for UMM in preparation for Bible studies, service work, and more. The time is ideal to join your UMM brothers at PK08! (At least 10 members are already registered.) Act soon to save $15 off the normal registration ($89.95).

Promise Keepers '08

The identity of men and the concept of manhood itself are under assault. At PK08, thousands of men will come together to examine what defines a man and gives him purpose and meaning. The model is a timeless, immovable standard, independent of history and cultural changes, in the form of the person, the man, Jesus Christ.

Those who have attended prior PK events know Promise Keepers is a life-changing experience. As the PK Website states, "Something special happens when men take to the athletic arena to praise and worship God. A new level of engagement is achieved. The videos, comedy, recognized national subject experts, small group interaction, and masculine worship are all focused on delivering high-impact messages that create a significant marker in the lives in men."

The Manhood ‘08 program can help you get a handle on your life and mission, despite our shifting culture, which is often hostile. PK08 delivers the message that a real man loves God more than anything else and is willing to progressively receive His help in becoming more like Jesus in how he thinks, lives, and relates to others this side of heaven. Philosopher Thomas Carlyle summed it up when he said, “Show me the man you honor, and I will know what kind of man you are, for it shows me what your ideal of manhood is and what kind of man you long to be.”

Don't you owe it to yourself and your family to give yourself one evening and a day to join with other men who, like you, love the Lord and want to serve Him more fully? If your answer is yes, go ahead and register now for PK08, then tell Mike Foster that you're signed up. If you need more encouragement or information, contact Mike or visit the Promise Keepers site.
